What is a gitterbox?
A gitterbox, also called a mesh container, wire mesh pallet cage or stillage, is a stackable steel box with welded mesh walls used to store and move parts inside factories and between suppliers. Most have a drop gate on one side so parts can be picked without unstacking, and many fold flat for return transport. Gitterbox Nordic builds them to order in any dimension rather than to a fixed catalogue.
Can you build steel containers in non-standard sizes?
Yes. There is no size range. Length, width and height are set by the customer, so the container fits the rack, the truck or the machine it serves. Wall type, gate position, base and finish are specified the same way.
Can you copy a container that is no longer manufactured?
Yes. Send a photo, the data plate or rough measurements of the old unit and we rebuild it. Replacing a discontinued design is routine work, and a drawing is issued for approval before production starts.
Should I choose hot-dip galvanising or powder coating?
Hot-dip galvanising is the choice for outdoor storage, wash-down areas and marine or aquaculture use, because the zinc layer protects cut edges and welds. Powder coating is chosen for indoor use and when containers must be colour-coded by customer, part family or plant. Electro-zinc plating and raw or primed finishes are also available.
What quantities do you produce?
From small batches to repeating series. On larger orders one first article is built and checked against the customer's part and racking before the rest goes into production.
Where do you deliver?
Production is in the EU and delivery is worldwide. Norway, the Nordics, Germany and the rest of the EU are served regularly; other destinations are quoted per order.
How is a custom container different from a standard EPAL gitterbox?
The pooled EPAL gitterbox to UIC 435-3 is one fixed design: 1240 x 835 x 970 mm outside, 1200 x 800 x 800 mm inside, 50 x 50 mm mesh, around 1500 kg load capacity, stackable 1+4, grey RAL 7030 and exchangeable inside the European pool. It is the right choice when the goods fit it and pool exchange matters. A custom container is what you order when they do not: a different footprint or height, the gate on another side, a solid or timber base, castors, a specific RAL colour, or your own markings. Gitterbox Nordic builds that custom side, including units that stack, fold and mark up exactly like the pooled design while fitting your goods.
What information do you need to prepare a quote?
Internal or external dimensions, what goes inside and roughly how heavy it is, whether the containers stack and how high, how goods are loaded and picked, indoor or outdoor use, colour or galvanising, quantity and the date you need them. A photo or a sketch of the container you use today covers most of it. Gaps are not a problem: the quote comes back with the questions that actually change the price.
